Berlin Buzzwords is a conference focused on open source software projects in the field of big data analysis, scalability, storage and search. It provides a platform for developers, engineers, IT architects, analysts and data scientists who are interested in the topics of information retrieval, the searchability of large amounts of data, NoSQL and big data processing.
As leading event manager of Berlin Buzzwords I organized and implemented the Big Data conference in 2012 and 2013.
The main challenges with Berlin Buzzwords were to keep its community spirit while scaling the conference. To tackle this issue and to make Berlin Buzzwords more interactive, additional formats were added to the talks by inviting participants to submit sessions of different formats, for example, hacking workshops, coding sessions etc. Additionally the location offered an increased amount of flexibility for participants, speakers and sponsors to get together and connect during talks and workshops.
To keep the conference as open as possible for the future generation of developers and actively recruit female speakers, Berlin Buzzwords cooperated closely with the Open Tech School and Berlin Geekettes, and hired a contact person for female speakers.
